Thug-O-Nomics – song

Here’s a track for a serious antagonist to the hero The Stunning Beeboy. I wrote these verses way back for this character, but made the beat and recorded it today. It’s a rough, but I had to share. Thug-O-Nomics is a studio gangsta. He’s the top seller on Sound Off Records. He used to date Beeboy’s sister. Beeboy doesn’t hate many people more than he hates Thug-O-Nomics. But the song is thorough.

Verse 1
The streets know my name but they scared to say it
They know I pack that napalm ain’t afraid to spray it
Raps incriminating ni**a I can fill a morgue
But I paid all the judges so f*ck it hit record
Pump more white than winter- stack bricks like igloos
My peoples 5% I know more Gods than hindus
Talking G-packs, i talk to folks in Nicaragua
Think the block is hot, I stay walking through lava

Verse 2
Thug-o-nomics it’s supply and demand
You got it I want it no denyin the man
Been a stick up kid, been crook and a booster
Sometimes I ask aggressively don’t make me shoot ya
Don’t want your blood on my money ,my chain or my kicks
Bullets move fast so  you better make it quick
Hard way or easy way come on take your pick
Thumb is on the hammer ’bout to make it go click
Finger on the trigger I can make it go bang
So break yourself fool or you bout to know pain
I’m a pusher I’m a pimp I’m a thug and a thief
My name’s on all the blood and the drugs in the streets
Crystal meth, ecstacy, marijuana, coke
Mushrooms, Lsd, mescalin, dope
Uppers  and downers everything in between
You lovin’ the song guess that makes you a fiend
My catalogs a rapsheet lyrics is crack
Hard to make it out the streets with your spirit intact
They need some ghetto heaven, but I’m givin’ ’em hell
Became a better criminal from a prisoners cell

Verse 3
I put my hood on the map, put my hood on my back
As For the fiends put my hood on the crack
Them Rocks is designed by me Thug-o-Nomics
Epidemic my sickness Make you wannna vomit
Thug-o-Nomics give you a lead colonic
My spit is toxic – said to be demonic
Err body know I pack heat – like a thermos
Don’t make me circulate my heat – like a furnace
I got to, ’cause my Ice is like glaciers
Anybody try to snatch can call me the Eraser
Fuck with me you will be non existent
My pistols barely whistle like the ones on my pendant
blast off like I’m NASA – Houston we have a problem
If I meet a man on the moon – I’m a rob him
When I’m mobbin’, got your hardest dude playin possum
Ain’t a Nigga with my attitude since Straight outta Compton

Always Ready

T-Shirt design for so badass it hurts contest on cracked.com.

Always Ready-72dp

I went with 80s action movie motifs. Rambo’s hair and headband. Dutch’s vest with grenades from Predator. A BFG . Nun chucks, so many American Ninja  and martial arts movies in the 80s. Chuck Norris’/Burt Reynold’s mustache. Aviator Sun Glasses.  Arnold’s trademark cigarrs. This is what action looked like to me as a kid. Hopefully the judges think so too.

If they don’t I’ll post in in zazzle and or cafepress.

Gunpowder and Toast

mogadishu2014

Mogadishu – A character from the Stunning Adventures of Beeboy entered my head the other night and I started writing verses for Mogadishu. Then I made a beat, then I recorded a song, then I created an image for the song. I get carried away sometimes. Hopefully another character from Beeboy will pay my mind a visit.

So right below is the original recording, and the original cover work.

And here’s the more recent version for both the song and the art work.

More Wanna Buy Art and Video

So I decided to work on a video for the song Wanna Buy?. In doing so I worked up a new series of images featuring that little hellspawn Damian from the remake of the cult horror classic, The Omen.

You may notice the brand of soda he’s selling  isn’t familiar, hopefully.

Also, a video below.

And let’s not forget the original image.

Logo: The Ratchet Hatchet

Beefing up that portfolio. A Podcast I love, The Ratchet Hatchet, featuring two NY comedians that I love, Josh Homer and Jess Wood,  was having a logo contest. Here’s what I came up with.

And a slight variation.

The D.E.A.L.

D-E-A-L

This was designed for a special friend of mine. She had to do a presentation for a job interview based on training new personnel in a college advising on how to deal with dissatisfied students. She told me she wanted to present playing cards with her acronym D.E.A.L., which I hope is self explanatory by looking at the card above.

What Up Y’all? (It’s A.B.)

In my boneheadedness, I believed I was recording into a SHURE SM-57 mic through a Digidesign MBox 2 Pro for the last few months. That was not the case, at all, I was recording into my computers built in mic. That’s ok for skype and taking notes, but, I’m trying to have vocals that start strong. So, I downloaded the driver for it and that changed things quite a bit. Anyway, now that I squared that away I laid out this track that I was performing as an opener, when I used to perform. So, here we go. It’s called, “What Up Y’all? (It’s A.B.)”I recorded a song called “Franklin Richards” over  the track by sTERRYo aka Soem aka TK Lawrence of Sight Beyond Light, the Dub Pistols and the Hardy Boys.  The track is lost to time, but hopefully when I repurposed the beat I created a timeless track.

I also came up with some artwork for it based on the “Keep Calm and Carry On.” posters that were really popular 3 years ago.

The Recluse and NDVisual Media Logos

whouse-recluse-head-small

The Recluse is another child of my brain. I’m switching gears from Beeboy, to do a tighter character piece. Straight forward story telling, not the overwhelming multi-media nightmare that Beeboy was becoming in my mind. The Recluse is going to have a leaner cast and just be a twist  on a familiar character. Her’es a logo I think fits the mood I’m trying to set. Simple, eh?

ndvisual media-logoI’ve done a few logos for the media company before, this one is just tighter to me. I’d believe in anything that this graphic was representing. Yay me!!!

Pull Pile Podcast – Design

At my good friend Rah Unique’s (@rah_unique) recommendation I began following the Pull Pile Podcast on Twitter and Facebook. Okay for the uninitiated a pull pile (or pull list) is a list of comic books that collectors subscribe to at their Comic Book Store. Most of you may remember being able to pick up comics at your local candy shop, super market, news stand  or 7/11. That distribution model is long gone, Comics are primarily found in specialty Direct Market and Hobby stores. So the podcast is about the new releases the two hosts pick up every Wednesday, the day new releases of comic books are sold. They also discuss films and television series and other related media.

So the hosts of the Pull Pile Podcast  The Head and Winthrop Chesterton wanted to create a new identity and presence online with a new logo and some original artwork. They reached out to their fan-base and followers on various social media platforms. I answered the call and they got in touch with me and told me what they needed. Here’s what they had a friend put together to give me a rough idea for what design challenges I had to meet.

The great thing about this is that these guys knew what they wanted and were able to clearly demonstrate what they needed from me. So I pretty much hopped on this as soon as I could, because although I hadn’t met them personally I felt like these were kindred spirits, I saw their tweets, listened to their podcast and there was even some interaction online. They use the hashtag #letstalkcomics to ask fans questions about comics, the characters, the creators and the industry in general. So as I said there was already a bond, a sense of fellowship. So I showed them some roughs that I worked on in Adobe Illustrator.

I started with the familiar old DC Comics logo as inspiration. Then I modified it to a series of Ps with the number three taking up residence in the curve of the letter P. Being comic fans they went with the DC bullet, and the masthead was a simple design with layered bold letters reminiscent of the silver-age of comic books, which is around the late 50s/early 60s, where the Justice League of America formed and The X-Men, Avengers, Spider-Man and other well known characters were first introduced or revamped.

I was told to move forward with these designs and gave them a swatch of these designs with different color schemes. Here are a few that they liked.

I used the banner on their podcast as inspiration for a few color schemes. They really seemed to appreciate that.

With that done it was on to the illustrations and the mock comic book cover. The characters were definitely interesting and fun to draw, one has no face, like The Question and the other, an over large cranium, like Megamind. I feel a bit longwinded at this point, so I’ll just show the final product. I know bandwith is a little crazy in some places and too many images can slow ya down, so here you go.

I put the comic on a bed of classics and maybe spent too much time rendering the headphones, but I like the work and more importantly so did Winthtrop and The Head.

And that my friends is that.

Hopefully I get more (paid) work in the future to showcase, it was fun and I wish these guys all the success in the world. If you’re a fan of comics follow them on twitter, listen to the podcast and tell ’em @Countbaqula sent you.
