Gunpowder and Toast

mogadishu2014

Mogadishu – A character from the Stunning Adventures of Beeboy entered my head the other night and I started writing verses for Mogadishu. Then I made a beat, then I recorded a song, then I created an image for the song. I get carried away sometimes. Hopefully another character from Beeboy will pay my mind a visit.

So right below is the original recording, and the original cover work.

And here’s the more recent version for both the song and the art work.

More Wanna Buy Art and Video

So I decided to work on a video for the song Wanna Buy?. In doing so I worked up a new series of images featuring that little hellspawn Damian from the remake of the cult horror classic, The Omen.

You may notice the brand of soda he’s selling  isn’t familiar, hopefully.

Also, a video below.

And let’s not forget the original image.

Gotta Have Ya Baby

A mix I did mainly to work on my timing for samples and “Music Composition” in general. I’m an amateur at this game so I’m looking for the cleanest instrumentals and vocals. Aretha Franklin’s song, “Baby, I Love You”  has long been in my head as a song that has that kind of potential, and I’m sure someone in the world has sampled it. So I got busy with that and maybe, just maybe went a little too far with that sample from the back-up singers saying “baby.” Any as it turns out today is Aretha’s Birthday. So I’m putting up the track, rough, though it may be, in her honor. Some Day, You Might Wanna Run Away

For the image I put together for this track  I wanted to use young Aretha. I’m my search for an image I discovered she was once married to Glynn Turman, who you might know as Mayor Royce from the Wire, Col. Taylor from A Different World or that young playa, Preach, from Cooley High. With that information I found a pic from Cooley High and it was perfect, him looking over his shoulder  with an expressive face. I went a little retro with the design. I like it and the track.

Wanna Buy?

Podcasts are so inspirational. A few months back, I posted a theme song for Get Up Off This, now Matt Robinson is asking for a Heavy Metal song about a kid in his neighborhood who sells soda on the corner and only speaks two words of English, which are, “Wanna Buy?” His voice has been described as similar to Joy Behar from the daytime talk show, The View.

Here’s what I think the kid looks like.

Wanna Buy?-550

Now, I haven’t ever made a metal song before. I rarely listen to Heavy Metal, but  I like a challenge. I think this might could work as some type of indie rock.

Lyrics

Wanna Buy, on the corner selling soda Wanna Buy? x2
It’s a hot day in California
I’m wearing my shorts and my tennis shoes
what do I see down  the corner
one, one  little kid with a lemonade stand a lemonade stand
I don’t understand why he’s wearing all black
he’s wearing all black
a wool suit and he has a question
Wanna Buy, on the corner selling soda Wanna Buy? x2

The D.E.A.L.

D-E-A-L

This was designed for a special friend of mine. She had to do a presentation for a job interview based on training new personnel in a college advising on how to deal with dissatisfied students. She told me she wanted to present playing cards with her acronym D.E.A.L., which I hope is self explanatory by looking at the card above.

The Red Roach

wp-redroach-banner

I had an idea for a character on the way to see Stallone’s new shoot ’em up, Bullet to the Head. It was for a character that was simpler than other characters and stories I’ve been developing. It was an insect based character, I just love those. Anyway the character’s theme is based on roaches, filthy disgusting roaches. He’s a pest to the criminal underworld.

The idea here is to do one page stories akin to the old Hostess snack ads from the 70s and 80s.

The comics would feature a villain of the week an we catch the action just as it’s about to get resolved. For the first issue I have the hero fighting a squid themed villain, Carl O’Marley, PHD. The Roach is trapped and has to find a way to escape. That’s all I thought about going in before laying out the action in a thumbnail.

After I lay out he basic action I drew it, inked it, then in the Marvel Way added the dialog. And there we have the first installment below. rr-grey-words1.1

The following images show the thought process for framing the second installment of The Red Roach. As in the case of the first strip, I just thought of a basic situation and laid out some interesting ideas for images based on the characters I wanted to use. This time I used the Pigeon as the antagonist. She’s just your basic winged flyer, bust so is the Red Roach. Again I start with the basic idea of them flying and I have to find a way to resolve it in a few panels. I decided I’d rather not have him hit a woman, so she had to crash into a wall.

Here are few flight and collision studies for the Pigeon.

Below is the finished product for the second installment.

The Recluse and NDVisual Media Logos

whouse-recluse-head-small

The Recluse is another child of my brain. I’m switching gears from Beeboy, to do a tighter character piece. Straight forward story telling, not the overwhelming multi-media nightmare that Beeboy was becoming in my mind. The Recluse is going to have a leaner cast and just be a twist  on a familiar character. Her’es a logo I think fits the mood I’m trying to set. Simple, eh?

ndvisual media-logoI’ve done a few logos for the media company before, this one is just tighter to me. I’d believe in anything that this graphic was representing. Yay me!!!

A few Drawings.

Work has slowed my pace, here are a few Redesigns for Art Jams on CBR. The first is Quentin Quire, Kid Omega, in the trappings of a Greek/Roman god-king.

The following is the offspring of two Avengers. One being Thunder Strike, a guy who stood in for Thor for a while.  The other is a chick named Magdalene, who was pretty much a Marvel analogue for Big Barda, from Kirby’s Fourth World.
